2008 International Blues Challenge |
|
Jennifer Marriott and Odd Sheep Out are heading to Memphis and the 24th Annual International Blues Challenge !
The IBC has evolved into the nation's biggest and most respected showcase for Blues musicians ready to take their act to the national stage.
The IBC is a judged “Battle of the Bands” in which competitors
take the stage and play a short set for a panel of judges. The acts are
judged based on an established set of criteria.
The IBC represents an international search by The Blues Foundation
and its Affiliated Organizations (mostly blues societies) for the Blues
Band and Solo/Duo Blues Act ready to perform on a national stage, but
just need that extra break. Each Affiliate of The Blues Foundation has
the right to send a band and solo/duo act to represent the organization
at the IBC Semi-Finals on Beale Street in Memphis, TN .
The Blues Organization that selected and is sponsoring Jennifer and Odd Sheep Out is the F.O.R. Blues (Friends of Rentiesville Blues) Society located in Rentiesville, OK. If you haven't been out to the Dusk 'til Dawn Blues Festival
every year then you are missing out! We met so many great people and
heard some of the best blues out there yet again this year. Playing on the inside stage this year was a blast! Thanks goes out
to Selby, DC and the entire crew at the festival
for making us feel so welcome and for selecting us to represent them.
Be sure to check out the IBC website for details on the biggest blues
weekend in the world, where to get tickets, hotel accommodations.

BST Blues Challenge Results! |
|
Well friends, we came in second. But no worries it was an great night full of great music and we met some new friends, and met up with some old friends so it is all good. We had a wonderful time playing and it was great to be included on such a great bill. The winner of the BST Blues Challenge was Little Joe McLerran , Peidmont blues specialist, who performed with Ronnie Mack, his dad on bass, Ron McCory on drums and the legend himself Jr Markham on harp! Dustin Pittsley who did a awesome set (after playing at the Spot awards and winning best band for 2007) came in third. Dustin is such an amazing talent you really need to catch a show of his if you haven't. He can turn a chord and a phrase in a ballad to make you cry, then turn around in the next song and have you rocking along singing the chorus right along with him.
The Bluesdogs who represented Tulsa last year at the IBC in Memphis put on a hugely rockin show. These guys will get you up out of your seat and leave you screamin for more, and they are great guys too! Queen Bee Blues gave us all a lesson in keepin it real. (Jennifer you are an inspiration to me). Pure Silk a great long standing local R&B band helped us all learn how to "Do Right". The Home Brewed Band, put on a great set of tunes and they were smokin tight on their set. The 235 band as usual did not fail to impress everyone with their show. Last but not least - the true Tulsa Legend, Mr. Tiny Davis surprised us all by coming out of musical retirement to treat us all with his smooth as silk vocals giving us all an example of how a master performer exacts their musical craft.
Thanks to everyone who was there and made us feel so welcome.
Thank you Bill Martin and Eddie Bagwell, Sam and the rest of the Blues Society of Tulsa crew for allowing us to help in keeping the blues alive! Have you joined yet? If you haven't you need to. HELP KEEP THE BLUES ALIVE!
